New Logo and Online JAINA University

We are glad and excited to announce a couple of new initiatives by JAINA.

During the JAINA Executive Committee meeting on April 20, 2020, the EC approved a new updated and a colorful logo for JAINA. All future communications will carry this new logo.

Also, a resolution to create online courses on Jainism was unanimously adopted. The actual planning for this initiative began in October of 2019, long before coronavirus pandemic. The original idea to offer online courses was proposed by Dr. Jagdish Sheth at the 2015 JAINA Convention.

Preparations are underway to prepare the following courses:

  1. A set of 25 lectures on the Prakrit language course by Dr. Jagat Ram Bhattacharya of Jain Viswa Bharti, Shanti Niketan.
  2. A Set of 6 introductory lectures in English on various Jain subjects by Dr. Bipin Doshi and others that teach Diploma courses on Jainism at Mumbai University.
  3. A 25-lecture course on Tatvarth Sutra by Dr. Jitendra B Shah of Shrutratnakar Trust of Ahmedabad.

JAINA Online courses will be on a new separate JAINA educational portal. All the courses will be offered free of charge and without any commercial interruptions to anyone in the world who wishes to learn Jainism.

JAINA EC has allocated $4,800 towards the creation of the first six courses and additionally, three individuals have pledged to sponsor one lecture each. Many more sponsorship opportunities are available to JAINA members by sponsoring other individual lectures or the entire 25 lecture courses at $800.00 per lecture. JAINA will announce the names of the individual sponsors in the weekly newsletters until all the remaining 50 lectures are sponsored. Credit to the sponsor will appear at the beginning of each video lecture.

JAINA’s past President Dilip V. Shah of Philadelphia has been assigned the responsibility for creating a video recording of these courses.

JAINA Technology Committee will be in charge of creating the new platform for offering these courses. For sponsorship or volunteering opportunities, please write to

Our past President Dr. Sulekh Jain has written an interesting article on Coronavirus in Global Village. The article says, During the last 200 years, due to advances in technology, travel, internet, and instant communication, the world had already become flat and truly a Global village. In a Global village, people care and share with each other and live happily. The recent Coronavirus has brought us even closer. The COVID-19 Pandemic does not see race, religion, color, caste, creed, language, or geographical border before striking and everyone is affected equally. It spares no one and is a great equalizer amongst rich and poor, weak or mighty, and ordinary or VVIPs. PM of U.K. Prince Charles, Hollywood Stars (Tom Hanks and his wife), famous Sports players TV newscasters ( to name just a few) and so many known and unknown people have been affected. It exacts a very death toll too. Read the whole article in the link below.

Karma Flow Chart

Understanding Karma in depth might be a little difficult for some people. For easy understanding, Dr. Sulekh Jain and Parag Shah of Houston have created the Karma flowchart. Look at the flowchart in the link below.

Jain Center of America

During these difficult times, the Jain Center of America (NY) is striving to keep members engaged in religious activities. JCA along with YJA set up on-line classes for kids to resume their weekly pathshala. The center conducts five classes for different age groups each week. JCA has also set up on-line art classes to help kids spend their time productively at home and create something from their imagination. For the elders, they conduct a 24-Hours Bhaktamar Stotra Jaap, Pravachans, and Bhakti Bhavana with multiple scholars in India.

Lastly, for the overall well-being of their Sangh, they launched a program called JAP - JCA Action Plan, that will allow senior citizens who need help to make their requests heard, and JCA is collecting funds to specifically supply Jain food to nearby hospitals treating those affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Communities across the country are closely monitoring the outbreak of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and following public health preparedness. According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), the United States nationally is currently in the initiation phases of COVID-19, but states, where community spread is occurring, are in the acceleration phase. The duration and the severity of each phase can vary depending on the characteristics of the virus and the public health response.

This crisis threatens everyone's way of life, but it is especially difficult for people who are already vulnerable-including those with pre-existing medical conditions, no savings, or inflexible jobs.

JAINA World Community Service (WCS) is launching a fund for the victims of this unfathomable tragedy and ask the Jains of North America to contribute. The funds will be used for a humanitarian/educational projects selected by the World Community Service Committee & executed once the relief operations end and rehabilitation work begins.

Jainacharya Yugbhushansuri's letter to Secretary General of United Nations Date: Apr 17, 2020 Category : Save Humanity

Today, the world is gripped with the devastating effects of “COVID-19”, A virus originated from 'Wildlife Contact'. This contact is the ultimate root cause of all of humanity's agony today. Many more such diseases are looming at the horizon, ready to take a leap at us at any point. *The only way to prevent a hazardous situation like this is to start practicing Distancing from Wildlife.

'Wildlife Contact' includes activities like 'hunting', 'poaching', 'wildlife trade', 'deforestation', 'dietary consumption', 'wildlife farming', 'encroachment', 'holding wild in enclosures as pets or for R&D purposes'.

This can be done by considering this contact as the most lethal and devastating mass destructive weapon than any other weapon. As for Nuclear and Biological weapons, the prohibition of this 'Contact' must be included as a part of the disarmament mission.

This can be achieved by either including stringent clauses of avoiding 'Wildlife Contact' in Bio-Weapon disarmament or otherwise. Unless this is done, Global Bio-Security of Humanity will never be assured
