www.JainLink.org is an on-line Jain community developed in
collaboration with JAINA, Jain Centers, and YJA.
Jai Jinendra @@first_name@@
I
was in China last month. It seemed that the concept of vegetarianism
was unknown. Through my Chinese speaking colleagues, it took minutes
of animated discussion and negotiation to explain to the waitress (and
her manager and her manager's manager) that I don't eat meat, fish,
eggs, or food with any fish sauce. We all have heard about animal
rights and abuse. But as Jains, how many of us have really taken any
action - or even donated to the cause? In this JainLink newsletter,
Professor Gary Francione and Ruth Eisenbud share their thoughts on
animal compassion and call to action.
Editor: Yogendra Jain, JAINA/Long Range Planning Committee.
In JainLink December 08 Newsletter: (click here to read the newsletter or visit us at www.jainlink.org)
Meet Professor Gary Francione: I am a law professor. My primary area of scholarship has
involved the moral and legal status of nonhuman animals. I have been a vegan
for 26 years. The basis of my veganism has always been spiritual; I reject
violence against all sentient beings. ... (more)
Note from Ruth - a new perspective on Jain Way of Life: Ruth
is of Jewish background but has passionately adopted and
practices Jainism. She is an active member of Jain Center of Greater
Boston and an gives it members a new perspective on Jain Way of Life!
JAINA's New Headquarters and New Manager: JAINA is growing and on the move... (more) . Jain Scholar's Program is Growing - The
international
Summer School for Jain Studies (ISSJS) which sponsors up to 30
international students free of cost to study Jainism in India is growing ... (more)
YJA's 2009 North East Winter Retreat - are your kids (ages 14 - 29) going! This is more than just skiing ... (more)
Please forward this newsletter to your friends and family. If you would like to volunteer your time for Jain projects, please contact us. Please sign up as a JainLink member and start your own blog, home page, etc. For more information: info@JainLink.org

The following is a draft action plan. Multiple chairs from YJA will need to be involved in parallel:
|
Logistics: (ASAP - this week) Decide on 1x per week 30 min. conf call with us (Say Thursday evening at 9:00 p.m. EST) - do a go to meeting. Get the current active members to Join Jainlink (as a regular member - we can then switch them to YJA) Get full Admin password to these people (4-5 people) Get YJA group password to others (anone on the board or other volunteers approved by board)
(before Jan. end) Training: (at least 4 YJA people) - Schedule a 45 min. on line training with Yourmembership support person (at least 4 YJA people should be on this). Decide on date and time. Prefer a non-weekend day and later in the afternoon around 6:00 p.m. EST (so West coast people can join in)
(Feb 10th) YJA mail list clean up in preparation for import: ( YJA person and Chandra)
option 1: Send a very very short survey via JainLink ("tell us what three activities you would like to see from YJA in 2009 and 2010") and get confirmation as to how many of the addresses are valid and if the end user would like to be a part of YJA or YJP or opt out.
option 2: Send an invitation and see who signs up and keep the others as non-members (for emails which don't bounce back)
option 3: Do both option 1 and 2
Decide on fields to import (what YJA specific tags we would like this database to have) Import in JainLink Validate the import
(Feb 15th) Integrate content between YJA and JainLink: (Sumeet, Yogendra) - Prominently display YJA on JainLink ( - Prominently display JainLink on YJA (for access to resources, etc.)
(Feb. 25th) Membership Messaging: - Send intro letter to each YJA person - Get regional coordinators to review the names, etc. and get them to add regional content
(Feb 10th) Donation Site: (Chintan, Yo, TBD YJA person) - Connect to payment gateway - Test donation - Put up some names of YJA Local / national projects which YJA is doing and requested donations - Send a donation request to TBD community people
(Feb 20th) Store Site: (???) - Upload 5 items for sale - Send message to all members about this
(Feb. 7th st) Newsletter: (Developed by YJA TBD person) - Mail out Feb.YJA newsletter - Mail out March YJA newsletter
Feel free to edit and update the above... |
