Hello All,

My name is Kejal Kothari. I am working with Prabhaben Mohnot and other members of JAINA in order to create brochures to raise awareness about Jainism. We would like your feedback on the first draft of the brochure we created on JAINA (please see attachment). My team would like to make sure we aren't missing any important information before the president of JAINA views this brochure.

At this moment, we are simply looking for feedback on the content. We are working with a graphic designer to make this brochure aesthetically appealing.

Please comment below to give us your responses by 12:00 PM on Monday, January 17, 2011. If we don't hear from you then we'll assume you approve this brochure.

•Step 5: Get it reviewed by LRP/JAINA

– Develop the Tools - Quickly find out if any other colleges have a Jain Student Associations. Contact them and see how they did it. Use their experience and your experience to develop a short and simple "How To Start a Jain Students Associations Plan.”

•Phase 2: 4-6 months

– Publicize the Tools - Do a general broadcast of this document to all Jains in North America. JAINA can help in this by sending an email to all parents and ask them to forward this to their kids who are in colleges.

•Phase 3: 7-9 months

–Help and follow-up with a minimum of 10 colleges and meet the target of 5-7 colleges

Refine the strategy and repeat Phase 2 and 3.

–Non-Jain will ask for this handbook as it is practical, caters to ones experiences, and following it will lead to peace, harmony, and happiness.

–Jains and non-Jains of all ages 12 and above living in North America

–Be able to give it to a non-Jain non-Indian (such as a non-Jain spouse) and that person will quickly get an idea of what living a Jain Way of Life is about.

The goal is to update and port JNF
- Minimal management - admin. needs to add photo. Some fields are static and admin fields
- Need to send reminders - and quarterly newsletters to be sent out
- Need better marketing and promotion - especially with other
- When a new person joins they contact other people and that is what gets people visiting
- There are some profiles in US and India
- Would like to continue charging some fee - it focuses on getting serious candidate
- Site is now dated - developed in 2001 and has been working great since then - but with JainLink an opportunity exists

I spoke to Mary Kate on several subjects regarding admin functions:

a. We wanted to have Latest News section rolling. Not possible with TC-01 home page.

b. Photographs on the site needs to be resized to 574x180 pixel size. Just reload corrected size pictures. There is no way to resize automatically - will loose resolution.

c. face book membership is free for one year, still requires $350 set up fee.

d. Menu Management - there are too many centers. Only way to fix is to create another hierarchy - Northeast, Southeast, etc. Than delete/add all centers are different level. Go to Control Panel followed by Menu Management. Edit the list.

I was in China last month. It seemed that the concept of vegetarianism was unknown. Through my Chinese speaking colleagues, it took minutes of animated discussion and negotiation to explain to the waitress (and her manager and her manager's manager) that I don't eat meat, fish, eggs, or food with any fish sauce. We all have heard about animal rights and abuse. But as Jains, how many of us have really taken any action - or even donated to the cause? YJA integration plan

The following is a draft action plan. Multiple chairs from YJA will need to be involved in parallel:

Logistics: (ASAP - this week)
Decide on 1x per week 30 min. conf call with us (Say Thursday evening at 9:00 p.m. EST) - do a go to meeting.
Get the current active members to Join Jainlink (as a regular member - we can then switch them to YJA)
Get full Admin password to these people (4-5 people)
Get YJA group password to others (anone on the board or other volunteers approved by board)

(before Jan. end) Training: (at least 4 YJA people)
- Schedule a 45 min. on line training with Yourmembership support person (at least 4 YJA people should be on this). Decide on date and time. Prefer a non-weekend day and later in the afternoon around 6:00 p.m. EST (so West coast people can join in)

(Feb 10th) YJA mail list clean up in preparation for import: ( YJA person and Chandra)

option 1: Send a very very short survey via JainLink ("tell us what three activities you would like to see from YJA in 2009 and 2010") and get confirmation as to how many of the addresses are valid and if the end user would like to be a part of YJA or YJP or opt out.

option 2: Send an invitation and see who signs up and keep the others as non-members (for emails which don't bounce back)

Rajeev Jain is exploring getting on-line donation going. Objectives are:
1. Any JAINA / participating Jain Center approved project can submit to get donations
2. Appx. donation fees are 2% - based on shopping card vendor selected
3. Initial focus on key / larger projects which have main stream membership interest (such as education committee, etc.) - each project should have a standardized donation request format (Project Name, Project leaders, Contact information, amount to be raised, use of funds, etc.)
4. Have links from these committee/ project homes pages to the donation sites.
5. Goal to have 5 donations funds ready by September end.
6. Goal to raise $50K for projects by Dec. 08
7. JAINA to get 5% of the donations for JAINA administrative and management fund

Step by Step for Jain Centers

Welcome to Jainlink! We are very happy you have taken the time to begin setting up your Center’s group page on Jainlink. The following is a step by step to help you set up your group page.

1) If you haven’t already, please register as a member on www.jainlink.org Next, join the Center’s page which you are affiliated with and will be setting up. Once you have been verified as a member, you will be made an administrator for your Center’s page

2) Once you are made an administrator you will see a red bar, such as the one shown below.

This has a drop down menu which has many options. The four categories are:

- Content Management

- Photo Management

- Blog Management

- Member Management

Let’s start with the first option, content management. Content management includes:

- Group Descriptions – This category allows you to edit what people see on the welcome page. You are able to add both text and pictures. Please be sure to add the name of your center, address, phone number, and website URL.

- Custom Pages – These pages can be accessed from the home page from the drop down menu labeled “More In This Group…” These pages can be used to add information such as Patshala homework and curricula, Calendar of events occurring at the Jain Center, and other pertinent information you would like to add to your site.

- File Library - Here you can create collections of files that can placed within any of your group custom pages. File collections can be placed in "collaborative" mode, which will allow other group members to add their own files to the collection. Once you have created a collection, simply go to "custom pages" (within group admin options), select the page in which you would like the collection to appear, then associate the collection. You can associate multiple collections with custom pages.

The next category in the drop down list is Photo Management. Here you can create albums of photos of your Jain Center, events occurring at your Jain Center, etc. You can also accept or reject photos posted by other members.

The next category is Blog Management. A blog is a place where members can post their thoughts in a journal style for everyone to see. As an admin, you can see the existing blogs and add new blogs if you wish.

The last category is Member Management. Here you can see and manage who is currently part of your Center, who is still pending to be accepted to your Center, and what each member has done chronologically.

We have gotten 550 people from Boston loaded on to JainLink and membership conversion for them is coming along nicely.

The following was the bulk email we had sent to them.

Step 1: export your member names, emails, and addresses on to the excel spreadsheet;

Step 2: continue populating your site with more and more content

Step 3: import your members to JainLink

Step 3A: put this in your newsletter (if timeline permits)

Step 4: send a bulk email out to them

Step 5: follow up with a second request to sign on after a 1 week

Step 6: send out newsletter to both members and non-members

please visit here to get templates. You can get member templates if we agree that we would like to make the people in the database members. If not, then use the non-member template and this will require all of them to register and become members (many will not go through the trouble). Feel free to keep many of the fields depopulated. Chandra can help you add more custom fields.

Also in parallel - we should be thinking about what kind of content we would like to add to this, how we should organize it etc. Ideally - when you have completed the database, the content is ready as well, and we can get send out bulk emails, newsletters, etc.

It would be good to put an email together on the overall strategy for content.

Change JAINA committees to Groups

Just as JainLink members can be past of any Center group, the same way we would like to have any member be part of JAINA committees. Specifically, the following is required to do that:

step 1: type in www.jainlink.org/admin (and register)
step 2: click on go to frontend
step 3: copy the current content (so you can paste it later)
step 4: return to securend
step 5: click on Group Management
step 6: select add new group
step 7: select Type pull down to be JAINA
step 8: Type group name to be name of the jaina committee
step 9: type group code to be the name of the committee; when you hit enter, you will see that the URL changes to /group/groupcode
step 10:
step 11: in the permissions change the following:
    NO - to autoapprove of photos
    Bulk emails - EMAILS MUST BE APPROVED
step 12: add short description (now you can cut and paste the description of the committee
step 14: in the group home page- do cut and paste again and keep the bottom part (names of subcommittee members)
step 15: copy the Friendly URL
step 16: click Submit
step 17: click on Control Panel (on the left)
step 18: select Menu Managment
step 19: Go to Menu items, scroll down the screen, and find the JAINA committee name and click on edit icon;
step 20: copy the URL to URL and hit update
step 21: go to frontend and click on JAINA committee name URL and confirm that the home page shows up.

step 1: sign in as an admin
step 2: click on Group Management ; Add a New Group;
step 3: select Type as Centers
step 4: type in Group Name: OH -Jain Center of Greater Cleveland step 5: Group Code should be OH - JCGC >
step 6: select the following options:
Group accessibility - open;
Membership Options: default (Any community member... )
Hidden Group: default (No...)
Auto-Approve Photos: change to No
Bulk Email: change to Emails must be approved...
Messaging Options: Allow group administrators...

Short Description: leave blank

Group Homepage Welcome Message: <>

also, highlight Jain Society of Greater Hartford and click on the chain in the edit menu and link this to http:// in the first field and wee.jsgc.org in the adjacent field and click insert.

Then click Submit.

Then add to the main menu:
step 7: Select menu item below which you want to add jsgc
step 8: add to Link Text: OH - Cleveland (JSGC)
step 9: /group/oh - jsgc

go on the top to Return view frontend, go the main menu items, click on Center, and click on Cleveland and confirm that the address, etc. shows up.

1. White page concept for business (not members). Can we get some people to advertise and collect revenues from these people to fund the expenses.

3. How do you add newsletter to a particular group (there is one stored for Chicago)
4. How to make "subadmins"
5. We have deleted the groups on the main menu and got centers under this - is this OK.

8. type of Calendar/events - local centers want to see their events only not global events... but if i am visiting SFO, then I can go to their group and see the events they have for their group

To add content:
step 1: have the content ready in rtf or word format
step 2: upload the content file to Content / Resources (be sure to place it in the right category/folder)
step 3: create a custom page
step 4: upload the rtf or word document or do a cut and paste (when cutting / pasting, click on MSWord box or T box which will open window for pasting in that format)
step 5: you may need to add color, headers, bold, etc. as some of this may be lost
