Who are the Sarak Community ?

Sarak (has historical meaning from Sanskrit “Sravaka”) is a community spread across the villages in Jharkhand, Bihar, W. Bengal and Orissa.

As per our Jain Shastra / Books, “Sarak” were all Jains since ancient times however, they had given up Jainism due to invasion from various rulers, droughts, dominance from other communities.

Excerpt from Jain Parampara No Itihaas – Part 1 Page 502 (Found books from our Jaina E-Library) as per the information provided by Maharaj Saheb from India.

Wiki Page https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sarak has such details about the history of Sarak Community.

Initiatives from Jain Community with Guidance from Aacharya Maharaj Sahebs :

Raj Parivar (Under the banner “Sarak Utkarsh Abhiyaan”) has been working very actively towards this goal since last 20+ years. Samkit Group (Under the banner “Sarak Gram Seva”), Bombay https://www.samkitgroup.com/event/sarak-gram-seva/ has joined with Raj Parivar since last two years and actively working on various projects with Guidance, blessings and motivation from P.P. Aacharya Bhagwant Rajendra Suriswarji M.S., P.P. Gachadhipati Aacharya Bhagwant Rajshekhar Suriswarji M.S. and P.P. Aachrya Bhagwant Abhayshekhar Suriswarji M.S. and with active guidance from Shri Kumarpalbhai V. Shah and Shri Kalpeshbhai V. Shah.

One of Acharya Shri Ramparam Suriswarji M.S. did a Vihar to these villages for couple of years to outreach Sarak Community and bring them back on the path of Jainism.

Right now, Following 4 Maharaj Saheb, disciples of પ. પૂ. આચાર્ય ભગવંત અભયશેખરસૂરીશ્વરજી મ.સા. did a 2400 KMs Vihar to Sammet Shikhar with the goal to “Upliftment of Sarak Community and bring them back on the path of Jainism”.

These M.S. do travel to all the villages with the focus on villages on the border of Jharkhand and W. Bengal, reach out to all the Sarak Community, giving them an updesh on Jainism, talk about their history as written in our Shastra and encourage them to follow Jainism followed by Sarak Gram Seva, awareness pravachan for Sadachar, Masahar Tyag and Vyasan mukti.

Samkit Group and Raj Parivar has been planning and executing various projects including Puryusana Aaradhana in 80+ Villages.

This year, A team of 250+ volunteers from Mumbai, Surat and Baroda went to these Sarak villages to celebrate puryusana with the local Sarak community. During this puryusana, they teach / perform daily seva pooja, perform morning / evening pratikraman, perform bhakti geet, Lectures-Pravachan, Shibir/quiz for kids, Maha Pooja, Snatra Mahotsav, Prabhat Feri, 14 Swapna Mahotsav, distribute sweet box in 3600+ households on Mahavir Janma Vanchan day, arrange Navkarshi in all centers on Parna day etc.
