JAINA will be celebrating the seventh International Day of Non-Violence on Oct. 2nd. Marking Mahatma Gandhi's birthday, this day has been established by the UN to "secure peace, tolerance, understanding and non-violence."

"The essence of all knowledge consists in not committing violence. The doctrine of ahimsa is nothing but the observance of equality i.e. the realization that just as I do not like misery, others also do not like it."
- Mahavira (Sutrakrtanga, 1/1/4/10)
