Let's Fight Coronavirus with Bhagwan Mahavir's principles

One of the leading Indian news channels throws light on how the Coronavirus is the result of a selfish behavior of human beings, and how nature is giving back to us in the form of our Karmas for harming, misusing, and exploiting the environment for our benefit.

The video talks about how Bhagwan Mahavir's five great principles, Ahimsa, Satya, Aparigraha, Asteya, and Bramcharya can help us fight against this Coronavirus pandemic.

Jain Society of Greater Detroit

On Mother’s day, JOY from Jain Society of Greater Detroit teamed up with JOS to have a celebration for all the JSGD Moms and seniors. They played various Bollywood trivia games and even gave a tribute to the late actor Rishi Kapoor. After the games, they did a short prayer and Riya Munot performed Moti Shanti. This was a very unique experience for everyone as they conducted this event through a video call. JOY would like to thank everyone that made this event possible.

Jain Philosophy: Passions (Kashays)

The Kashaya (passions) means internal desires which move us in all kind of activities in our daily life. The word kashaya can be broken down into kasha, meaning worldly life and aya, meaning gain. Thus the literal meaning of kashaya is to gain worldly life again. This means that as long as we have the kashayas, the cycle of birth and death will continue. There are four types of kashayas (passions) namely: Krodha (anger), Maan (ego), Maya (deceit), Lobha (greed). These four can be grouped into two categories: 1) Rag (attachment), 2) Dwesh (hatred). Rag is formed from Maya and Lobha, while Dwesh is formed from Krodh and Maan.

Quote

My soul characterized by knowledge and faith is alone eternal. All other phases of my existence to which I am attached are external occurrences that are transitory.

- Bhagwan Mahavir

YJA UPDATE

With deep sadness, YJA has officially canceled the 2020 YJA Convention in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. While this decision comes at a time of universal uncertainty, YJA has made a choice to prioritize the health and safety of the guests, committee members, and community.

YJA has long been a vibrant presence in the Jain community of North America. For nearly 30 years, they have dedicated their efforts to engaging and connecting Jain youth across the country and around the globe. From the very beginning, everything they have pursued and achieved has been by the youth, and for the youth. Their commitment to you is what drives them year after year and what will carry them through these difficult times.

Please take a moment to listen to a heartfelt message from the YJA Convention Committee - a family of brilliant, hard-working, and dedicated members of the community, just like you. Words cannot express how much they were looking forward to July and hosting their 14th Biennial Convention, but YJA knows they will see you again soon.
