JAINA AND INTERNATIONAL AHIMSA FOUNDATION CELEBRATE MAHAVIR JAYANTI AT INDIA CONSULATE, NY
The International Ahimsa Foundation USA celebrated “A Message of Lord Mahavir” on his 2618th birth anniversary and also commemorated
the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, at the Consulate General of India premises, in New York, on May 7, 2019. The event was
cosponsored by JAINA.
Over 200 guests attended the event, including Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney, Professor Lawrence A. Babb of Amherst College, Assemblyman
David Weprin, New York State Senators John Liu, and Kevin Thomas, and Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer. From
JAINA, Gunvant Shah - JAINA President, Mahesh Wadher - First VP, Haresh Shah, Rajeev Pandya, Jigar Shah and Harshad Shah had attended
the event with their respective spouses.
The Dignitaries spoke about the Lord Mahavir, Mahatma Gandhi, and their principles respectively. The guests were entertained by cultural
performances by artists and performers. The program concluded with a Jain Dinner for all guests.
