The establishment of a JAINA general fund marks the first time JAINA has embarked on such an endeavor. At the convention, the JAINA Executive Committee re-established JAINA’s goal to raise $1 million by the end of 2014 to help JAINA further its vision for the future.
"Through humanitarian, educational and inter-faith work, we will make JAINA stronger together and build upon the momentum we achieved in the last 32 years," incoming JAINA President Prem Jain said.
Keynote speaker Sam Pitroda, entrepreneur and chairman of India's National Innovation Council and advisor to the Prime Minister of India, emphasized Jainism's global impact in terms of environmental issues, community service and value and ethics in the business environment.
Continuing with the convention's theme, Jainism: A Global Impact, the conventionincluded variety of speakers, scholars and panels that emphasized Jain principles and values in a global context. Topics ranged from a "Healthy Jain" series to the promotion of Jain values in the 21st Century.
The convention also included a variety of social events and activities, ranging from a Bollywood-themed cultural program featuring a collaboration between Bollywood singers and the Michigan Philharmonic Orchestra to the Jain Academic Bowl, a friendly competition where teams of young Jains could test their knowledge of Jain trivia against one another, as well as a showcase of artistic expressions through the "Jains Got Talent” program.
