Africa and other Leading the Peace and Human Rights Panel;co-sponsored by

Co-sponsored by the Jain Center of Connecticut (JCC). Dr. Uma Mesthrie:
Gandhi's great- granddaughter. Dr. Mesthrie is a Professor of History at the
University of the Western Cape, Cape Town, South Africa. Dr. Mesthrie has
published several books, two of which have won awards. The Noma Book Award
(Africa's Premier Book Award) awarded her "Special Commendation" for From
Cane Field to Freedom, 2001. Also, Africa/MNet Literary Awards awarded her
"the Best Non-Fiction Award" for Gandhi's Prisoner? The Life of Manilal
Gandhi, 2005. She has also written numerous articles including those about
South Africa, women in South Africa and Gandhi
