Dear Sadharmiks,
Jai Jinendra! Pranam!

Following our initial introduction to Jaina Sarak Community Upliftment in the June 30, 2023, weekly update, we are excited to present an update spotlighting the historical significance and research conducted by Jain Scholars from India regarding the Sarak Community. Hailing from Jharkhand, Bihar, Bengal, and Orissa, the Saraks have maintained many Jain practices. Despite their historical Jain connection, they have become isolated from the broader Jain community due to several factors over the years. Discover more details below.

Once again this year, JAINA has intricately arranged a religious pilgrimage and 99 Yatra of the revered Shree Shantrunjaya Maha Tirth, for 2023-24. The comprehensive itinerary also encompasses the 12 Gau Chhari Palit Yatra, Shree Samet Shikharji Tirth Yatra, and the Girnar Mahatirth Yatra, extending for almost two months. This Yatra is set to commence on November 27th and concludes on January 26th. For an in-depth understanding of the program, including details about costs, lodging, boarding, sponsorship opportunities, and general instructions, please consult the attached brochure and contact the concerned committee members for further guidance.

The article from 'Jain Digest June 2023' discusses a new book by stress researcher Elissa Epel, titled "The Stress Prescription." Epel explains how stress impacts our bodies at the cellular level and provides insights on managing it effectively. She highlights that not all stress is negative and emphasizes the importance of developing stress resilience. The article outlines Epel's background and her perspective on handling stress for improved well-being. Please check the full article below.

JAINA Sarak Community Upliftment Committee

After our initial introduction to Jaina Sarak Community Upliftment in the informative update shared on June 30, 2023, we are thrilled to embark on a comprehensive journey of enlightenment. Over the upcoming weeks, we have curated a captivating series of updates that delve deep into the rich historical tapestry and meticulous research undertaken by our esteemed Jain Scholars from India, all centered around the fascinating Sarak Community.

The Saraks, residing across the regions of Jharkhand, Bihar, Bengal, and Orissa, hold a unique place within the realms of Jainism. With roots tracing back to ancient times, their customs and practices have been profoundly influenced by Jain principles. However, the passage of time and a multitude of factors have led to their gradual detachment from the mainstream Jain community.

Who are Saraks whose Gotra are matching to our Jain Tirthankars ? Why do they observe the following tradition of the Jain Religion?

  • No non-veg consumption
  • Marriages only within the community
  • Celebrate Mahavir Swami Nirvana Day in their own ways
  • No use of violent language
  • No food consumption in the night-time

Please check this Youtube Video to start with in this first part.

Please review this JAINA Website for more details at Sarak Community Upliftment. If you are interested in volunteering for this committee or want to learn more about the Sarak Community Upliftment, please get in touch with Jatin Shah at C: 703-926-7451 or email at jatinshah999@gmail.com.

JAINA Tree Plantation Project

JAINA Vaiyavach Committee has sponsored the plantation of 2,000 trees on the highway from Panchasar leading to Shankheshwar. These trees can live for 200 to 500 years and provide a shaded path for our Sadhu bhagwants, generate oxygen, cool the surroundings, and bring much-needed rains in that arid region.

You can support the plantation of 10 trees for just $500
