The Jain Center of Northern California generously distributed over 550 meal packets in an overlooked uptown area, like Silicon Valley. JAINA Convention 2023: An Amazing Experience by Sanjay Bhandari
Sanjay Bhandari, the editor of the Young Generation section of Jain Digest, attended the JAINA Convention in Lakeland Florida this year. Since he was one of emcees at the convention, he got an excellent opportunity to have one-on-one conversations with some of the dignitaries and speakers that he was going to introduce on stage.

FOR 10 TH YEAR, JAIN CENTER OF NORTHERN CALIFORNIA SUPPORTS UNHOUSED COMMUNITY

On 16 December 2023, Jain Centre of Northern California conducted the annual Ahimsa meals and winter solstice food drive. They distributed over 550+ hot, homemade, nutritious, and wholesome meals prepared by JCNC Kitchen volunteers according to Jain principles and delivered to unhoused people in Silicon Valley, California. Yes, Silicon Valley, one of the wealthiest areas of America, does have unhoused people. They also distributed sleeping bags and blue tarpaulins to keep them warm in winter.
The event was organized in coordination with the Interreligious Council (SiVIC) and other homeless support organizations in Silicon Valley, CA. Shri Girish Shah, SiVIC Chair and JCNC founder, past president, and past BOD Chair, implored to “build inter-religious harmony and understanding to promote a just and compassionate society in Silicon Valley. Girish Shah thanked JCNC Sangh and SiVIC organizations for their tireless efforts to bring smiles to the unhoused community during the holiday season.”
Compassion is an integral part of the Jain religion, and this is the 10th year, Milpitas Sangh has supported the unhoused community with hot food and survival kits.
