Inside October 2022 Jain Digest

How to Create a Blissful Life by Payal Seth / Dr. Palakh Jain

This article is a first in the series of two articles where Payal Seth and Dr. Palakh Jain discusspractical lessons from Karma Theory that elaborate on how to take charge of your life and determine your fate. The teachings are based on the discourses of the revered Jain Sadhu, MunishriKshamasagar Ji.

The authors say, ”Remember that karmas are influenced by our present efforts, attachments, and ignorance (or lack of right knowledge). Attachments and ignorance have the potency to destroy the qualities of the soul including compassion. However, present efforts and embarking on a spiritual path open new avenues forundercutting attachments and ignorance.”

Jain Centers Latest News

Jain Center of Minnesota

Jain Center of Minnesota organized Samuhik Ayambil as part of the Ayambil Oli for the first time in its history. The event was well attended with over 25 members performing Ayambil tap on that day. The food committee did a great job by making 25 different items and amazed all who participated with the variety of items and the creativity. The main goal was to demonstrate the variety of items that can still be had, teach everyone how to perform ayambil, and provide encouragement to do this Tapasya on an ongoing basis. Everyone felt they are ready to do more ayambil in the future after this and JCM is hoping to continue this activity in the future based on how much the center members appreciated this event.

Jain Society of Central Virginia

Jain Society of Central Virginia (JSCVA) is planning to celebrate Diwali on Sunday, October 23, 2022, where Pathshala kids will be performing a skit followed by other cultural programs and Swamivatsalya. The center has also organized Gyan Panchami day Saraswati Pujan on Saturday, October 29, 2022, followed by Swamivatsalya. JSCVA organized Snatra Puja and Swamivatsalya every Sunday.

Shree Uttaradhyayana Sutra Aagaam Vaachana

Shree Uttaradhyayana Sutra, the final Deshna (sermon) by the 24th Tirthankar, Bhagwaan Mahavir, is considered one of the four 'Mulasutras' (original texts). As a summary of Jain scriptures in 36 chapters, it starts with Vinay (Respectful conduct), which is critical to spiritual progress. It ranges through a wide variety of topics, including requisites of ascetic life, righteousness, nature of karma, metaphysics, description of the cosmos, questions about the soul, Leshya (Aura), and others, many illustrated through interesting short stories.

By the aseem kroopa (limitless grace) of Panyas Dr. Arunvijayji Marharjsaheb, we will have Aagaam Vaachana (Aagam Reading) of Shree Uttaradhyayana Sutra every Saturday & Sunday from 11.15 am to 12.15 pm (EDT) followed Q & A directly with Shree Maharjsahebji till 12.30 pm.

This is a rare and unique opportunity to learn the secrets of a Tirthankar Deshna (Revelations of Tirthankara), coded by the Ganadharas (Chosen knowledge bearers) in Sutras (Short Verses) and brilliantly illustrated by Maharajsaheb with simple visuals on a blackboard, in a classroom type, interactive, teaching setting.

We are all fortunate and grateful that we live in an era where technology makes it possible to access the aatee durlabh (rarely accessible), Jin Vaani (Tirthankara's teachings), originally expressed in Ardhmaghdhi Prakrit, revealed here accurately in simple, understandable Hindi/ English interpretations by Panyas Dr. Arunvijaji Maharajsaheb in the comfort of our homes. I hope you will all avail the Laabh (benefit of this grace) of this excellent opportunity brought by JAINA and encourage all your friends and family to do the same.
