This Paryushan/Das Lakshana, we suggest you to try writing down 3 gratitudes before going to bed. You can write anything for which you are grateful about on each day. Then, make it a habit to pause each day to notice and appreciate what's good in your life.

We believe, this exercise will help reminding how fortunate we are to have health, realtionships, shelter, food, money in our lives in comparison to the less fortunate and how important it is to cherish what we have.

Also, listen to the most inspiring speakers for 2021 Paryushan Parva - Rashtrasant Param Gurudev Shree Namramuni Maharaj Saheb and Shri Deepakbhai Bardoliwala who will give Pravachans in Hindi and Gujarati, respectively. Dash Lakshan Maha Parva will have video class each day for about 30 minutes in Hindi language and will also have written article with the significance of each day. We are working on all Pratikraman schedues and will announce the same soon.

Inside Jain Digest June 2021 issue, Satish Kumarji has written about Faith and Science – A Jain Perspective, where he explains that the world is facing the climate crisis because faith has been disconnected from science. This week, JAINA Education Committee addresses an important yet tabooed topic of Abortion through Jainism viewpoint in their blog, Jainism Says.

Just as the reflection of the moon does not appear steady in turbulent waters, the light of consciousness does not remain stable in a restless mind. Gurudevshri Rakeshbhai explains ‘Dispassion and Practice’ as the inevitable means to realize the Self and attain supreme bliss - which can be done only through a mind free of thoughts.

A few improvement highlights:

  • All the programming videos are now available for you to watch on-demand.
  • Once you have entered the On-Demand section, you will notice a horizontal band across the top with programming categories. You can scroll horizontally through the categories by clicking the arrow buttons to the left and the right of this band.
  • Clicking on a particular category in the band will list out available programs that you can watch. Each of the program titles has the day suffix to represent the day they were aired during the Convention.
  • To watch the program, click on the blue video icon on the far right.

We request you to take the Convention 2021 survey, if you haven't yet, and share your Convention experience. It is a short survey - will only take a few minutes and can be submitted anonymously.

Faith and Science – A Jain Perspective by Satish Kumar

In this article Satish Kumar ji points out that as practitioners of non-violence, we are required to be all life, including nature. He says, “All diverse forms of Nature; animals, forests, rivers, and oceans have souls. Even soil has soul. Nature is not a machine, and the Earth is not a dead rock; Nature is alive, and our precious planet Earth is a living organism. Therefore, we must adhere to the ideal of reverence for all life, human life as well as other than human life.” He further explains that “The world is facing the climate crisis because faith has been disconnected from science. In the long-term interest of climate stability and the sustainability of the living earth science needs to be wedded to spiritual values”.

Jainism Viewpoint on Abortion

JAINA Education Committee addresses an important topic of Abortion through Jainism viewpoint. Abortion has been for the most part a tabooed topic in our society, with opinions and/or beliefs of people on this topic standing on extreme ends of the spectrum. Human life is considered sacred amongst all other life forms in this world. Any form of violence against a potential human life is seen with very critical and sensitive views.

Many sects of world religions (e.g., Islam, Christianity) have a strong position on abortion. The directives from these religions state that abortion is considered a great sin and an abandoned act against humanity in general. Except, in a situation where a pregnant mother’s life is in danger due to any medical condition, most religions seem to have tolerance when it comes to practical implementation in specific situations.

Individuals are affected profoundly by the situations and circumstances (of any kind) that lead them to think about abortion, not just emotionally but often spiritually as well. Thus, many individuals turn to their faith/religion seeking guidance on these excruciating life situations, seeking advice on right vs. wrong, to find explanations that solace their discomfort, hurt, and feelings of guilt. Dispassion and Practice

Since time immemorial, all endeavors to gain happiness from the world have gone into an abyss; happiness has remained ever so elusive. Gurudevshri Rakeshbhai explains ‘Dispassion and Practice’ as the inevitable means to realize the Self and attain supreme bliss. Bliss is realized when the mind becomes free from thoughts. Just as the reflection of the moon does not appear steady in turbulent waters, the light of consciousness does not remain stable in a restless mind. You can experience the blissful Self only when your mind retreats from the non-Self. To turn your attention within, you must make your mind still. In this stillness, Self-realisation shall emerge.

Jain Senior Assisted Living Project in the USA

We are calling out Jain Senior Citizens (65 years and older) of the USA who are seeking a place to live with people of similar age and interests to enjoy their lives. JAINA is thinking of building the ‘Jain Senior Assisted Living Project in the USA’ to help Jain Senior citizens. If you seek a place that provides food, games, medical help, spiritual lectures, meditations, bhakti, and more under one roof or you want to spend your time with people who have similar interests and mindsets, please fill out the Seniors Intake Form for us to analyze and plan the project accordingly.

Through this project, JAINA aims to help the Jain senior citizens develop meaningful relationships with people of similar interests. JAINA believes that through community amenities, many residents find new friends who share similar interests. These connections are made stronger by living near each other and friendships in senior living are often very strong and meaningful.
