Dr. Padmanabh Biography by Dilip V. Shah
Dr. Padmanabh Shrivarma Jaini, an Indian-born scholar of Jainism and Buddhism, living in Berkeley, California, United States passed away on May 25, 2021. With a Towering personality, he was a great Scholar of Jainism and Buddhis, and Dean of Academic studies of Jain Dharma in the West.

JAINA sends deepest condolences to his loved ones and the people he influenced through his knowledge. Let us learn about his life and achievements through his biography written by Dilip V. Shah.

Rajamati (Radhamma), the eldest daughter of Shantiraja Shetty of Bethangandy Jain Pete in Karnataka attended school only up to grade 7th but was nonetheless a self-studied Sadhak of Jain Dharma. In 1918, she married Halemane Shreevarma Shetty of Nellikar. Even after her marriage, she continued to read many Kannada Purānas, especially Sri Padmāvatidevi Mahatmya (an eighteenth-century poet – Padmanabh’s 1400 verses praising Devi Padmavati). When Radhamma had her first child in 1923, she named him Padmanabh during a ceremony at the holy shrine of Hombuja. Radhamma made Padmanabh, at the age of three, memorize all the Nakshatras and the names of all the twenty-four Tirthankaras of the past, present, and future chovishis. She composed Bhajans and Ārtis and her mega opus Vardhman Purana in more than 1300 verses won her lifetime achievement award from Bahubali Mahamastak Abhishek trust in 1957. But she had no idea that her firstborn son will one day become famous all over the world - a scholar of Jainism and Buddhism.

Pujya Gurudevshri lucidly explains the reasons why many spiritual seekers go through feelings of despair and despondence even after finding the right mentor and the right means, and how they can prevent themselves from becoming an obstacle to their own spiritual growth

Be extremely earnest in your spiritual pursuit. Let it not be a half-hearted attempt. You may feel baffled initially. It can be disconcerting when you cannot discern the right means to practice or having practiced the right means, you don't see the desired result.

Jain Path of Liberation - Part 2
Let’s learn about Samyak Darsana, Samyak Jnana in detail.

Right Perception (Samyak Darsana): The first step in the process of self-realization is to discard superstitious beliefs and adopt a rational attitude in life.

Right perception consists of seeing the true nature of every substance of the universe. Jainism advocates that one should first try to know, comprehend, and understand the nature of reality, one's own self, religious goal, and the path. One should analyze it, examine it, test it, verify it, and then if satisfied, be convinced of its truth and efficacy.

From the practical point of view, perception in the nature of reality means to have total faith in the preachings of Tirthankars (Arihantas or Jain Gods), and their scriptures are known as agams.
