Jain Center Latest News

Jain Study Center of North Carolina
Jain Study Center of North Carolina (JSCNC) celebrated Mahavir Jayanti virtually, on April 25, 2021, keeping in line with CDC and local authority guidelines.
JSCNC has a unique tradition that the Puja is entirely led by Jain youth who perform the entire puja with explanation in English and this year was no exception. The
live stream gave all the Sangh members an opportunity to perform Ashtaprakari Puja from the comfort of their home. The event was attended by 75+ families, including
45 children aged 4 - 16 who led Puja, Swapna Darshan & Shanti Kalash. They also gave a warm sendoff to the class of 2021 and recognized all the high-school seniors
for their achievement. Overall, it was a great event that brought the community together through a virtual platform.
Jain Center of Central Ohio
The Jain Center of Central Ohio celebrated the Mahavir Janma Kalyanak program virtually. Kids from Pathshala level 1 class shared stories on Mahavir
Bhagwan’s life, along with the moral of the story. Kids from Pathshala level 2 and 3 class performed on a lullaby sung by Mata Trishla. Through this lullaby, Mata
Trishla talks to Bhagwan about her journey, from when Bhagwaan was conceived in her womb to the time when he would be an adult. She shares her experiences and thoughts
as she visualizes her recent past and the upcoming future! The kids creatively enacted each stanza of the Halardu to depict Mata Trishla’s imagination!
Jain Society of Ottawa Carleton
The Jain Society of Ottawa Carleton celebrated Mahavir Jayanti virtually on April 16, 2021. The 60 families who are members were joined by guests to
reach a total station count of 154. The celebration was special because of the enthusiastic participation of children and youth who helped in creating videos on the
dreams of Queen Trishala and Jain values. Another highlight was a talk by Prof. Anne Vallely of the University of Ottawa whose Ph.D. has a focus on Jain Faith.

Freedom from Prejudice
|
Have you found yourself stuck in your concepts? Have you ever confronted
someone only to realise you had built a grudge without verifying the truth?
Have you lost a friendship to miscommunication or assumptions? Yes, this
happens often in life. Here, Pujyashri Gurudev guides us in understanding how
prejudices are formed and offers a simple solution to become free from them
In the state of ignorance, man is a big bundle of
prejudices. He has his own set of beliefs regarding
almost everything and everyone. He has
compartmentalised his heart into two sections,
black and white. For him, people are either ‘bad’
or ‘good’. However, he fails to recognise the truth
that they are shades of grey. People are neither
just good nor are they only bad. They have their
own strengths as well as weaknesses.

Jain Path of Liberation - Part 1
|
We will learn about the Jain Liberation Path by Pravin K. Shah through Samyak Darsana, Samyak Jnana, and Samyak Charitrya.
The ultimate purpose of all life and activity in Jainism is to realize the free and blissful state of our true being. True philosophy should result in
removing all bondages (karmas) in the process of purifying the soul.
The central theme of Jainism considers religion as a science of ethical practice. The conduct of the present life should be aimed to attain total freedom
from which there is no return to the birth and death cycle. Every soul can attain liberation and a supreme spiritual state by realizing its intrinsic purity and perfection.
Jainism lays down a definitive course of practical moral discipline, contemplation of the highest truth, and reorientation of life in light of these for
attaining ultimate reality or truth.
The principle features of Jainism are:
- Religious tolerance
- Ethical purity
- Harmony between self and one's environment
- Spiritual contentment
Jainism prescribes a path to liberation (Moksha), consists of the following trinity (ratna-traya):
- Right Perception - Samyak Darsana
- Right Knowledge - Samyak Jnana
- Right Conduct - Samyak Charitrya
Right perception creates an awareness of reality or truth, right knowledge impels the person to proper action, and proper conduct leads him to the attainment of total freedom. They must coexist in a person if one is to make any progress on the path of
liberation.
To be continued…

Building Oxygen Plants
|
|
|
|
|
|
We all are working hard to help people in our Motherland. Oxygen seems to be the largest need at this time. While Oxygen Concentrators are great short term help, this crisis offers us a very unique opportunity to help with Oxygen Plants that will last
several years. Please see the attached PowerPoint presentation prepared to explain the plants and how you can contribute to make
them reality!
Three families have offered a total of $ 700,000 provided we all Jains rise and match them. They are Manu & Rika
Shah (Sarva Mangal Family Trust), Drs. Jasvant & Meera Modi and Mahesh & Usha Wadher. We hope that we all will rise to
this challenge.
No amount is small. You can form a group of either family or friends or with members of your Jain Center and seek
matching funds. You may also Donate to JAINA - Humanitarian Aid.
If you wish to help a specific hospital with oxygen plant, please fill out the attached google form. If you do not
have a preferred hospital, JAINA will suggest one
