How Can I Be Content?
One may ask, ‘I am dissatisfied with everything. What can I acquire that will make me content?’ The saints reply that so long as you think in terms of acquiring, you will not be content. The thought of acquiring itself is the source of discontentment. Contentment lies in celebrating what you have, while discontentment is a result of desire or greed for what you do not have. Chasing what you do not possess will keep you running around forever, as acquiring everything will never be possible. Discontentment will be the sad story of your life. Realize that you have been blessed with so much. It is only on account of your greed and ego that you cannot see it.

Jain Samaj of Colorado

Jain Samaj of Colorado (JSOC) got together virtually to celebrate Mahavir Janam Kalyanak on April 25th. The event was attended by the majority of the Samaj members and watched live on YouTube by many more from various different places, including India. Even in challenging circumstances, Samaj members worked hard to prepare for the celebrations with lots of enthusiasm. Tirthankar Mahavir’s practical preaching was shared by Samaj's excellency members. Kids had been preparing for their activities for a long time during weekly Paathshala and shared important information about 12 vrats, explained significant objects that are used in derasar/puja/pratikraman. It was extremely well-received and well-appreciated activities and showed how much kids have learned and how they helped others gain a broad understanding. Samaj members of all ages sang stavans and danced. They also provided an update on JSOC center-related activities. JSOC is grateful to the entire Samaj's members, specifically event volunteers, Paathshaala teachers, and JSOC center volunteers for making the event successful.
Jain Tattvas and Philosophy of Karma - Part 5
Let’s understand the last 2 of 9 Tattvas i.e. Nirjara and Moksha.

Nirjara (Exhaustion of the attached karma): The attached karma exhaust themselves by producing their results when it is time for them to do so. At that time new karma attach to the soul.

Unless the attached karma is exhausted before they start producing the results, it becomes difficult for the soul to be free.

Therefore, it is necessary to exhaust all karmas before their maturity. This is done by rigorous austerities and penance. This process is called nirjara.

There are twelve types of nirjara defined in the Jain scriptures. They are divided into two groups; external nirjara which disciplines the human body against passions and desires and internal nirjara which purifies the soul. The internal nirjara is the true austerities because it exhausts the attached karma before their maturity from the soul.
