Uttam Aakinchanya Dharma - Supreme Non-Attachment
This is the ninth day of Dash Lakshan Maha Parva. Let us discuss the importance of non-attachment state. One must practice a non-attachment state. The word ‘Uttam’ associated here, means an association of non-attachment state with the right faith.

The soul substance is the embodiment of knowledge and bliss. One does not give up this virtue of the soul. He must give up the altered state of the soul with infatuation and inclination of attachments and aversions. This is the nature of the absolute form of supreme non-attachment state.

The Non-attachment state described here is from negative affirmation. From positive affirmation purposes, the next virtue of celibacy will be described tomorrow.

One giving up oneness with alien objects of the universe is considered as the non-attachment state of the soul.

As the anger is the altered state of forbearance, the deceit is the altered state of the modesty, the possession is the altered state of non-attachment attribute of the soul.

So, to understand the nature of the non-attachment attribute of the soul, it is important that one knows the nature of possessions - Parigraha.

Possessions can be classified into two major terms:
  1. External – Baahya
  2. Internal – Abhyantar
In Dhavala book 1, Khand 4, Part 1, Sutra 67 it says: From a conventional point of view, the land, etc. are the external possessions. They are the reason for internal possessions. From an absolute point of view, the wrong faith, etc. are the internal possessions. It is the reason for karma bondage. To give up such possessions is known as the non-attachment state of the soul.

The internal possessions are of 14 subtypes. They are:
  1. Wrong faith - Mithaayatva,
  2. Anger,
  3. Ego,
  4. Deceit,
  5. Greed,
  6. Laughter,
  7. Indulgence,
  8. Dissatisfaction,
  9. Sorrow,
  10. Fear,
  11. Disgust,
  12. Male sex inclination,
  13. Female sex inclination,
  14. Common sex inclination.
The ten external possessions are as follow:
  1. Land,
  2. House,
  3. Silver,
  4. Gold,
  5. Wealth,
  6. Grain,
  7. Female servants,
  8. Male servants,
  9. Garments,
  10. Utensils
In Das Lakshana Dharma Pujan, it says that the monk has given up all these 24 types of attachments and he is the owner of the supreme nonattachment.

The possession is the greatest sin and to give up is the best nonattachment component element of the soul substance - Aakinchanya Dharma.

In all of the above mentioned 24 subtypes of the attachments, greed is the most important one. It is the root cause of all the attachments.

The forbearance is the absence of the anger, modesty is the absence of ego, straightforward nature is the absence of deceit and purity is the absence of greed. But nonattachment attribute of the soul is the absence of anger, deceit ego, greed, laughter, Indulgence, dissatisfaction, Sorrow, fear, disgust, male sex inclination, female sex inclination, and common sex inclination. Therefore, the absence of all forms of toxic emotions is the virtue of non-attachment.

In Asht Paahud scripture, (Bhaav Paahud) Shri Kundkund Aachaarya says: to give up the external possessions is for purification of the thought process, but without giving up the internal possessions, the external ones do not carry any significance.

One has given up internal possessions of wrong faith etc. and proportionately, he also has an absence of external possessions. So, the first and foremost is to work on the removal of one’s internal attachments of wrong faith, etc. states.

So, let’s cultivate the virtue of non-attachment with external as well as internal possessions to celebrate the Dash Lakshan Maha Parva.

THE KARMA THEORY IN JAINISM SERIES
The Nature and Form of Lesyas

6. Sukla Lesya

Its color is white like that of a conch, tastes sweet like that of sugar, smell fragrant like that of a rose and touch many times softer than that of butter.

Characteristics - A man under the influence of this Lesya would be busy with religious practice, would make attachment and hatred milder, would be self-controlled, and have a mind, full of equipoise.

Fruit - A man dying with these thoughts and feelings would be born in the Sarvartha-Siddha-vimana. (the highest heaven).

Out of these 6 Lesyas, the first three are bad. They lead to evil results. They should be given up. The last three lesyas are good and lead to good results. These three should be used more and more, gradually and regularly.

With this, the Theory of Karma in Jainism Theory ends.
