Uttam Satya Dharma - Supreme Truth
Today is the fifth day of Das Lakshan Parva. It is called Uttam Satya - Supreme Truth.

Truthfulness is the important virtue of the soul and the associated word ‘Uttam’ means the involvement of right faith, enlightenment - Samyak Darshan.

To worship this day, one should refrain from harsh words and condemnation. One should speak only the truth because it is the jewel and one becomes happy with it. If one has the impression of a person lying once, then the faith disappears.

Ordinarily, to speak the truth is considered a virtue for the average person. But when one thinks deeply then speaking truth - Satya vachan- and the truthful nature of the soul- Satya dharma- are entirely different. Mahatma Gandhiji said: Truth is God. Where one is looking for the real truth then it is about the hidden truth residing in the soul. The truthfulness and the control of the spoken words are summarized in the form of:
  1. Minor vow of truth - Satya Anu Vrat - not to speak a gross form of untrue words.
  2. Major vow of the truth - Satya Maha Vrat - not to indulge in the finer form of untrue words.
  3. Carefully spoken words - Bhasha Samiti - not to speak harsh and unpleasant words and to speak soft and benevolent words.
  4. Restraints on the spoken words - Vachan Gupti - to remain silent.
One must be aware that the spoken words and the real truthful nature of the soul are two separate entities. The speech is made up of matter particles, while the truth is the component elements of the soul - Satya Dharma. From one sense to five senses, trans-migratory souls having wrong faith have the absence of the truth as the component elements of the soul and from the right faith person to the monks to the Omniscient lords and the liberated souls there is the presence of truth as the component elements of the soul.

The component elements of the soul - Satya Dharma - in the form of truth is characterized as the soul having peace and passionless state. To manifest such ‘truth’ nature of the soul, one has to understand the structure and function of the soul. Supreme truth means enlightened faith with the right knowledge and right conduct - Samyak Darshan, Samyak Gnaan, and Samyak Charitra.

Truth means the eternal existence also. One has to understand the soul substance with its true state, to have faith in it, and to get engrossed in its true nature. This is the real nature of the truth as the component elements of the soul - Satya Dharma.

One perceives the object the way it is and that is called the truthful nature - Satya Dharma. To know and then to consider an object with likes and dislikes is not the nature of the truthfulness.

For fire, it is not necessary that someone has to say it is hot. No matter what, fire is always hot. In that way, given the true nature of a substance, it does not have an expectation of the spoken true words.

To know the given substance in its true form is the true knowledge, to believe it to be the truth is the faith, the spoken words about it are true and to have conduct accordingly is also the truth. The eternal all knower soul substance is the ultimate truth and by taking refuge in it, one ends up with Right Faith, Right Knowledge, and Right Conduct. This is the truth as the component elements of the soul - Satya Dharma.

So, let us imbibe such truthful nature in the form of knowledge, faith, spoken words, and conduct. This is the real nature of the truth.

The Nature and Form of Lesyas

2. Nila Lesya

Its color is blue, taste bitter than that of a wild thorn; its smell and touch are like those of the black Lesya.

Characteristics - Man overcome with this Lesya (mental feeling) would be jealous and mean-minded, would himself not study and would not allow others to study, he is given to worldly and sensual happiness.

Fruit - If a man dies with such green thoughts and feelings, he would go to the third, the fourth, or the fifth hell by gradation.

Jivdaya during Paryushan and Das Laxana is the most important of the 5 duties of a Shravak. That is the reason the first day of Paryushan is devoted to AMARI PRAVARTANA - a vow to not indulge in the violence of any kind. We express our acceptance of that vow by contributing to the Jivdaya fund.
