I have good news to share with all compassionate animal lovers. This week, the UK decided to ban live animal exports through the Animal Welfare (Livestock Exports) Bill, which signifies a monumental victory for animal welfare advocates. This bill will prohibit the export of cattle, ships, goats, and horses from the UK for fattening or slaughter. The move sets the stage for critical proposals in the EU, emphasizing the importance of global animal welfare advocacy. Check the details below.
The Joy of Sharing Foundation (JOSF) has geared up to serve 5,000 Jain Vegan meals on the upcoming Thanksgiving festival to homeless children, men, and women in Southern California, focusing on Los Angeles, Orange County, Riverside, and San Diego. This compassionate initiative not only provides nourishment but also replaces the harm caused by turkey slaughter. For further information and to join our dedicated volunteers in this noble endeavor, please find additional details below and get in touch to participate.
Sincerely and respectfully,
Haresh Shah, JAINA President

King Charles Proposes Historic Ban on Live Animal Export for Slaughter
In a groundbreaking announcement during the King's Speech on Tuesday, a legislation was introduced to ban the export of UK livestock for fattening and slaughter. If passed through Parliament, this proposal promises a pivotal impact on animal welfare and the UK's agricultural landscape.
Years of relentless campaigning by numerous animal welfare organizations culminated in this historic moment, signifying a landmark achievement in the United Kingdom's animal welfare movement. The decision to prohibit live exports is poised to reshape the landscape of animal agriculture in the country.
The ban comes in the wake of distressing incidents involving unweaned calves transported from the UK to Spain for fattening, where these animals suffered from injury, stress, and exhaustion. These occurrences have sparked global outrage, prompting heightened advocacy efforts from organizations like FOUR PAWS, signaling a renewed commitment ahead of the forthcoming EU elections.

HELP FEED PEOPLE AND SAVE TURKEYS ON THANKSGIVING!
On Thanksgiving Day in 2020, 46 million turkeys were slaughtered - a day of tremendous pain and suffering for these jivas. As the leading voice in the Jain Dharma, JAINA commits to reducing hinsa on this day by feeding Jain vegan meals to the homeless, the neglected, and abused children, women, and men.
Last year, we had a great response to the Hot Meals Program, where we fed 90,123 people in Los Angeles. Out of this, 7,500 meals were served in Los Angeles during Thanksgiving week. The Joy of Sharing Foundation (JOSF) created meals where harm to jivas was minimized and compassion was maximized. This objective was achieved through hot meals that were vegan and Jain. These meals consisted of garbanzo beans and rice, served with a Power Crunch protein bar (donated to us) and a water bottle.
Attached are a few photos and a couple of short videos showing highlights of the 2022 Thanksgiving meals drive; thanks to all who contributed money and time in 2022:
This year, we need your help to feed even more people. You can help reduce pain and suffering by donating money to feed the homeless in Los Angeles. The Hot Meals team has pledged to feed 5,000 people in Southern California. The meals would feed people in a vast area covering Los Angeles, Orange County, Riverside, and possibly San Diego. Each meal costs roughly $2.50, so your $25 donation would feed 10 hungry people. We would love your support to continue this work.
DONATE TO JAINA
Many of us are fortunate to have a roof over our heads, warmth on our bodies, and food on our plates. There are more than half a million people who don’t have these basic necessities. We can all do a little bit to help ease their hunger and bring a smile to their faces with a meal!
Let’s Feed The Hungry together!

Shree Uttaradhyayana Sutra Aagaam Vaachana
Bahushruta Adhyaya
Bahushrutas are classified into three categories Jagganya, Madhyama, and Ootkrushta, based not only on the number of Agamas memorized and mastered, but also on the degree of integration of those principles in daily actions, as well as the maturity of spiritual progress resulting from such practice. What are the indicators of recognition of each of three types of Bahushrutas? Can we become Bahushruta? If so How?
