JOY of Jain Center of Greater Detroit uplifted their seniors by organizing a drive through JOY Seniors Graduation at their temple.

Two new universities have committed to offer courses in Jainism. First, the Department of Religion and College of Liberal Arts and Science at the University of Illinois invites you to the signing ceremony of the Bhagwan Munisuvrata Swami Endowed Professorship in the Study of Jainism on June 17, 2021.

Next, Jain Studies in the USA received a further shot in the arm with the establishment of the Bhagwan Vasu Pujya Swami Post-Doctoral Fellowship at the prestigious Rutgers University in New Jersey. The program initiators are appealing to the Jain community to pledge their support within the next 3-4 weeks. All contributions will be matched dollar for dollar up to $500,000.

We are immensely happy to tell you that Rashtrasant Param Gurudev Shree Namramuni Maharaj Saheb has just accepted JAINA's request to give Pravachans in Hindi during Paryushn 2021. Our team is still working on Gujarati Pravanchans as well.

This Saturday, join the Ahimsak Eco-Vegan Committee presentation, chaired by Dr. Jina Shah, to know the committee and its activities. The committee supports our community to practice Ahimsa by avoiding any animal products in our food, clothing, or lifestyle. Moreover, the committee helps our community to learn to eliminate activities that contribute to climate change and the destruction of our planet.

		From “Earthlings” to Ahimsa, An American Journey to Jainism by Kenneth Furr Kenneth Furr was born in the state of North Carolina in the USA. He grew up eating non-vegetarian food. About four years ago, he watched a film called “Earthlings” which showed how animals were treated in various industries such as dairy, meat, fishing, etc. The cruelty he saw affected him intensely. He started looking for a spiritual path that took non-violence seriously. He says “This, of course, after much research, lead me to Jainism, a path that I have fallen in love with, a more holistic and consistent spiritual path, from my perspective anyway. To provide a proper disposal avenue for surplus Jain Books, JAINA Education Committee would like to announce a new pilot project named “Jain Books Recycle”.

Under this project, the committee will collect any such surplus Jain Books, Literatures, magazines, and other printed articles at one location and then share them with interested organizations and individuals in the USA first and then to India.

Please take advantage of this project to send us your surplus Jain Literature to recycle. This project is only limited to the printed Jain Books in Good Condition, Readable, Complete, and not torn apart. Please do NOT send any types of Jain Upakaran or religious artifacts. 		Life after life, the divine appears to have remained ever so distant. Gurudevshri Rakeshbhai says pine in love for the divine alone and you will find Him waiting for you. Devotion opens the doorway to the divine. A devotee yearning for the divine patiently waits for Him to emerge. Peacefully, he says, ‘Appear to me according to Your will, in Your way. I shall wait. I shall pray. I shall not coax nor put any condition. How can I seek You? For You are infinite and I am so petty!’

Great Vows (Maha-vratas) of Ascetics

Right knowledge, right faith, and right conduct are the three most essentials for attaining liberation in Jainism. In order to acquire these, one must observe the five great vows:

Non-violence - Ahimsa
Truth - Satya
Non-stealing - Achaurya or Asteya
Celibacy/Chastity - Brahmacharya
Non-attachment/Non-possession - Aparigraha

Non-violence (Ahimsa) Among these five vows, non-violence (Ahimsa) is the cardinal principle of Jainism and hence it is known as the cornerstone of Jainism. Non-violence is the supreme religion (Ahimsa parmo dharma). It is repeatedly said in Jain literature; "Do not injure, abuse, oppress, enslave, insult, torment, torture, or kill any creature or living being."

According to Jainism all living beings, irrespective of their size, shape, or different spiritual developments are equal. No living being has a right to harm, injure, or kill any other living being, including animals, insects, and plants. Every living being has a right to exist and it is necessary to live with every other living being in perfect harmony and peace.

JAINA ALC - Jain Studies at Rutgers University

Jain Studies in the USA received a further shot in the arm with the establishment of the Bhagwan Vasu Pujya Swami Post-Doctoral Fellowship at the prestigious Rutgers University in New Jersey. Prominent members of the Jain community and Rutgers agreed to an endowment of one million dollars for a permanent program in the university, making it one of such unique programs in North America.

This significant achievement will be made possible by the munificence of two donors in California who have pledged a matching donation of up to half a million dollars for this program. Thus, all the donations will be matched in equal amounts by the anonymous donor. The anonymous donors have chosen the name Bhagwan Vasu Pujya Swami chair at Rutgers.

Paryushan Pravachans 2021

After a successful virtual Paryushan of the year 2020, JAINA brings you good news for Paryushan 2021. JAINA is glad to announce that we have just confirmed with Rashtrasant Param Gurudev Shree Namramuni Maharaj Saheb to give Pravachans in Hindi during this Paryushan. Our team is also working on Pravachans in Gujarati and English, will update you soon. Stay tuned for more details on the Pravachans during Paryushan Parva.
