We are grateful for his work as a Western scholar of Jainism and Sanskrit from the UK. Throughout his life, he has authored several books on Jainism. Please read about him below.

JAINA Extends Condolences on the Arihant Sharan of Shri Paul Dundas

It is sad to learn the Arihant Sharan of Paul Dundas, a Western scholar of Jainism and Sanskrit from the UK, on April 5, 2023, at 70 years. JAINA extends our condolences and is forever grateful for his contribution to Jainism and Sanskrit. His former Sanskrit colleagues at the University of Edinburgh, UK, shared the news.

Paul Dundas was a scholar and a senior lecturer in the Sanskrit language and head of Asian Studies at the University of Edinburgh. His main areas of academic and research interest included Jainism, Buddhism, classical Sanskrit literature, and Middle Indo-Aryan philology. He was regarded as one of the leading Western scholars in Jain studies. He was a member of the Council of the Pali Text Society. Paul was a towering figure in the field of Jain and Prakrit studies. He is known to most scholars and students as the author of *The Jains*, of which the first edition appeared in 1992 and continues to be the most reliable introduction to Jainism to the present day.

Virtual Leadership Event Report

JAINA Long Range Planning Committee (LRP) and the Jain Center of Northern California (JCNC) Board collaboratively organized a Virtual Leadership conference on Saturday, March 18, 2023. The theme of the virtual conference was the Jain Way of Leadership -Doctrine of Ethics and Forgiveness.

The event was successful, with over 250 unique logins. This global event was attended by JAINA leaders, presidents, past presidents, leaders from Jain Sangh’s nationwide, and participants from India, Singapore, and the UK. The event was divided into two segments, and it was addressed and blessed by Acharya Shriji, dignitaries, speakers, and leaders.

Sessions will start with fundamental knowledge of digital devices like PCs, Laptops, tablets, and mobile phones. It will teach you which device is appropriate for you, how to use it, and make technology your friend.

Jain Community of British Columbia

Jain Community of British Columbia came together on April 9th, 2023, to celebrate the auspicious occasion of Bhagwan Mahavir Janam Kalyanak with great zeal and devotion. The event was a perfect amalgamation of religious rituals, cultural performances, and community gatherings. The celebrations occurred at the Jain Center of BC temple; more than 300 people attended.

The highlight of the event was the performances by Pathshaala kids and teachers. They showcased their hard work, dedication, and commitment to learning Jain principles and teachings. The 16 Swapnas of Mata Trishala were beautifully presented, and the youth of Jain BC performed a soulful Mahavir Bhagwan song that won the hearts of everyone instantly.

Defining Applied Jainism

Earth Day is approaching on April 22, 2023. Arihanta Academy, in collaboration with JAINA's Academic Liaison Committee (ALC), is excited and proud to host and sponsor a unique virtual conference, "Defining Applied Jain Studies," on Earth Day, April 22 and April 23, 2023.

This conference will bring esteemed Jain scholars to define "Applied Jain Studies" better and create a space to participate and engage. This conference will be exciting as it aims to define and expand methods for bringing Jain Principles to everyday life, focusing on Climate Change, Ethics, and other relevant topics.
