Jain Digest February 2023

Prerequisites for achieving Samyak Darshan by Anop Vora

Jain scriptures maintain that a vast majority of souls are wandering around the universe through the cycle of death and birth due to wrong perceptions (Beliefs) and ignorance. In this human life, we are given a huge opportunity in the form of a conducive environment to break up this vicious cycle. We can do this by understanding the Lord’s teachings, believing in them, and molding our life accordingly under the guidance of a Sadguru. An important step in this spiritual path is achieving Samyak Darshan.

In this article, Anop Vora describes the prerequisites required for us to succeed in this endeavor. He says, “(To achieve Samyak Darshan), we do not have to have an in-depth knowledge of the scriptures, nor does it require living a perfect life. But it does require a pure heart, total faith in the basic teachings, and a dramatic shift in the quality of our motives, thoughts, emotions, and feelings. This is indeed a giant step towards achieving liberation.”
