Jai Jinendra!

Thank you for participating in our second Jain Leaders meeting held on March 25, 2012 via con-call or e-mail inputs.

Vision for this meeting was to facilitate communication among our Jain Center leaders so that we can leverage knowledge and

experience across US/Canada. Goal was to focus on successes and challenges at small, medium, and large Jain centers.

We have summarized below your outstanding thoughts and practices based on all our discussions. Top 5 challenges

were identified and ideas around achieving success for each of these challenges were discussed in detail. It may be noted that these

are generic ideas, and may not work in every situation. Hopefully, you will find them somewhat useful in operation of your Jain center.

A.YOUTH INVOLVEMENT IN JAIN CENTER:

-Attract youths in technology related projects as they enjoy such projects, and bring value.

-Develop Facebook presence to reach more youths.

-Mentor youth to become Jain Center President and participate in EC.

-Encourage and support YJA Conferences.

-Translate Pujas in English.

-Encourage more community activity planned and executed by youths.

-Monitor how many programs are organized for Youths and attendance at such programs.

-Provide opportunity to youths to give presentation on Jainism at Jain Center and Interfaith meetings.

B. HEALTH AND WELLNESS OF COMMUNITY:

-Allow non-Jains to participate in medical camps, if and when offered.

-Offer regular Seminars on health and wellness

-Hold live fitness/exercise programs with fitness gurus.

-Collaborate with Hindu community to develop/share list of Doctors and their expertise in the community

-Ensure liability release forms are signed, as appropriate

C. SENIORS PROGRAMS:

-Arrange social activities such as picnic and pilgrimage to near-by temples for Seniors.

-Involve Seniors in office work or other light work in Jain center.

-Fecilitate meetings for Seniors at Jain Center, if such facility is available.

-Encourage religious and cultural programs by and for Seniors.

-Promote Bhavana at Senior’s home by rotation.

-Promote Mangalam TV show.

D. AVAILABILITY OF RELIGIOUS SCHOLARS FROM INDIA/U.S./CANADA:

-Currently takes 3-4 months to process R-1 Visa

-Lack of credentials for scholars reduce chance of obtaining R-1 Visa. Banaras Hindu University willgive credential if

Board of Trustee writes letter to them.

-Invite Scholars from India who already have 10-year Visa.

-Leverage local Scholars in U.S. and encourage development of local Scholars.

-Limited fund availability is a challenge in inviting enough good scholars to small and medium size Jain centers.

-JAINA will continue to drive R-1 visa issue with the State Department at an upcoming meeting.

E. SAFETY AND SECURITY:

-Lock silverware and valuables in the temple.

-24x7 live video recording and provide enough light to ensure good quality of video.

-Security gate and fence around the temple.

-Live-in Pujari at temple, if feasible, to discourage break-in.

Please feel free to forward this summary to your EC and/or BOD as appropriate. Asalways, your feedback is appreciated to ensure

we are on right track for enhanced communication and collaboration between JAINA and Jain Centers, as well as among Jain Centers.
