Whitny came to be involved in the study of Jainism because of her experiences in India with the International Summer School for Jain Studies and hopes that others, both Jain and non-Jain, will take advantage of the opportunities provided by the Jain community to embrace the culture and learn about the rich tradition that that is the Jain religion. "There is so much wisdom, knowledge and warmth present in the Jain community that a person cannot help but be enriched by studying and engaging this subject matter and building relationships with people in the Jain community”.
Whitny Braun, a PhD student at Claremont Graduate University and an alumnus of the 2006 International Summer School for Jain Studies in India. Whitny is currently writing her dissertation on the Jain ritual of Sallekhana and its role in the American and Indian legal systems today.
