Pope Francis Thanked Jains for Commitment to Care for  Earth

On June 1 2016, Institute of Jainology (IoJ) led a delegation to Vatican to meet with Pontifical Council for Inter-religious Dialogue (PCID). 35- strong international Jain delegation discussed the topic of ‘Taking care of the Earth, the home of the human family’. Dr Mehool H Sanghrajka, Director of IoJ, presented a paper from Jain perspective.

Following the meeting, the delegation had a private audience with HH Pope Francis. Expressing his joy at the encounter, Pope Francis welcomed Jains saying that, “We all love mother Earth, because she is the one who has given us life and safeguards us; I would also call her sister Earth, who accompanies us during the journey of our existence. Our duty is to take care of her just as we would take care of a mother or a sister, with responsibility, tenderness and peace”. He thanked Jains for what Jains do to protect and care for the Earth.

JAINA Condemns Night Club Shooting in Orlando

The Federation of Jain Associations in North America (JAINA), representing more than 150,000 Jains, condemns the nightclub shooting in Orlando, which left 50 dead. 29-year-old shooter took hostages and opened fire inside an Orlando night club at 2 AM Sunday.

We are deeply saddened by this sudden loss and urge people to remain calm. This is really tragic and sad. Reverence for all forms of life is the essence of Jain teachings. This is the time for prayers and efforts to stop such a senseless violence. Jainism holds that the taking life is a cardinal sin and we reiterate that nothing can ever justify terrorism and murder anywhere.

We pray for the speedy recovery of the injured and offer our deepest condolences to the families and friends of victims.

The Listening Heart from Veerayatan

Lord Mahavir’s timeless message (vaani) is continuously echoing. That divine sound is eternally calling for the awakening of every human heart. Divinity (paramatma) dwells within all but resonates only in the devotee whose heart listens and is replete with compassion. Elevated souls connect always through the heart, not the mind. The mind can have fear, logic can be defeated, but a listening heart can immediately scale any distance in its spiritual pursuits. It is able to reach out across seven seas in a fraction of a second.
