Lecturer's Background:

Dr. Vastupal Parikh, PhD

Professor Parikh has studied Jainism for over 40 years from the perspective
of a scientist and a reformist. Therefore, his lectures emphasize

* Logical explanations of Jain principles and practices,

* Relevance of Jainism to the 21st century - particularly to the concerns of
youth (new spirituality), and

* Need for unity and reforms to bring Jainism in the forum of world
religions.

Dr. Parikh received "JAINA RECOGNITION AWARD" at the JAINA 2003 convention
in Cincinnati for his book Jainism and the New Spirituality (
<http://www.peacepublications.com/> www.Peacepublications.com). Gujarati and
Hindi translations of this book are also now published. His latest project
Walk With Me: The Story of Mahavir - A Remarkable Revolutionary is 'in
press'.

Dr. Parikh has published several articles on Jainism including a small
booklet titled "The Jains - Questions and Answers". He is frequently invited
to talk on Jainism at schools, colleges and universities, service clubs,
local churches, as well as at the youth gatherings and YJA/YJP conventions.
He was featured on several national television shows in Canada to highlight
Jainism. Fluent in English, Gujarati and Hindi, Dr. Parikh has been a guest
speaker at JAINA Conventions (Cincinnati, Edison), Paryushan & Dashlakshani
celebrations (Toronto, Detroit), and at several Jain Centers Norfolk, VA,
Houston, Dallas), and at Multi-Faith conferences (Toronto, U. of M., Ann
Arbour, Houston).

Dr. Parikh is a past general secretary of the Jain Society of Toronto and
has been actively involved in multi-faith movement, peace groups, and in
curriculum/program planning (Jain International University, and the Jain
International Centre of the Gujarat Vidyapith, Veerayatan Vidyapith).

Vastupal Parikh migrated to Canada in 1960 and obtained his Doctorate from
Queen's University. As a Professor of Chemistry, he wrote several texts and
earned a reputation as an author and teacher who could explain highly
complex topics in a simple and easily understandable style. His reputation
as an educational reformist landed him invitations from universities and
education ministries in a number of countries. Dr. Parikh lives in Toronto,
Canada with his wife Nalini.

His lecture series in Boston - titled Success Through Fourteen Steps
(Gunasthana) - will explain Jain Principles and Practices. However, his
unique approach will explain how we can apply these to achieve success in
our personal career. His technique is certain to benefit everyone, young or
old - a professional, a businessman, a home-maker, or a student.
